Our "Feria de Becas" or Scholarship Fair, happened on April 3, 2019. In the Scholarship Fair, we had representatives from 6 different countries present to UPNFM students about scholarship and study abroad opportunities in their countries. The countries represented include Japan, Taiwan, Korea, the United States, Germany, and Brazil. Thanks to all who participated for making this such a successful event! // Nuestra Feria de Becas estaba el 3 de Abril, 2019. En esta feria, tuvimos representantes de seis países diferentes. Cada país presentó sobre becas y oportunidades de estudio en su país. Los países representados incluyen Japón, Taiwan, Corea, los Estados Unidos, Alemania, y Brasil. ¡Gracias a todos los participantes por hacer de este un evento tan exitoso!

On March 20th, the Languages Center celebrated International Francophonie Day. Our students enjoyed listening to two former French exchange students speak of their experiences teaching in France. Dr. Jesús Henriquez also gave students a chat on the French Proficiency test that they will be taking in September. At the end of the celebration, a French short film "Je t'aime à la folie" was shown. // El 20 de Marzo, el Centro de Idiomas celebró el Día Internacional de la Francofonía. Nuestros estudiantes disfrutaron escuchando a dos estudiantes de intercambio francés hablar de sus experiencias enseñando en Francia. El Dr. Jesús Henriquez les dio a los estudiantes una charla sobre el examen de aptitud en francés que ellos van a tomar en Septiembre. Al fin de la celebración, se mostró un cortometraje romántico francés "Je t'aime a la folie."

Today's Student Spotlight is Offir Romero! Offir has been a student of the Languages Center for many years now. He has completed all 5 levels of English courses and is now in is his third level of German classes. Offir studied abroad at Uppsala University in Sweden after finishing his third level of English. He was also the recipient of Ruben Dario Academic Excellence Award in 2018. Offir recently gave our English 3 students a motivational talk about taking advantage of opportunities you have now, rather than waiting to complete all 5 levels of English before applying to scholarships. El ha completado los 5 niveles de los cursos de inglés y ahora está en su tercer nivel de clases de alemán. Offir estudió en la Universidad de Uppsala en Suecia después de terminando su tercer nivel de inglés. También, el recibió el Premio Regional Rubén Dario a la excelencia académica en 2018. Recientemente, Offir habló con nuestros estudiantes de inglés nivel 3 sobre aprovechando las oportunidades que tienen ahora. Les dijó que no tienen que esperar a completar sus 5 niveles de ingles antes de solicitar becas. ¡Gracias por su trabajo y inspiración, Offir!

Our next Student Spotlight is on our class of FIFA Referees! UPNFM has formed an agreement with the National Referee Board to give English classes at the Languages Center to twelve referees. Keep up the good work! // Nuestro siguiente Student Spotlight es de nuestra clase de los árbitros de FIFA! Our next Student Spotlight is Kathy Munguia. Kathy is a student of the Art Department that takes English courses through the Languages Center. Kathy was recently invited to represent Honduras in an art event in El Salvador. Thanks for your hard work, Kathy! // Nuestro siguiente Student Spotlight es Kathy Munguia. The Languages Center has decided to begin featuring "Student Spotlights" - highlighting different students of the Languages Center. Our first Student Spotlight is Lázaro Yanez, captain of the UPNFM Lobos Soccer Team. He has played with the Lobos since the formation of the team eight years ago. Additionally, Lázaro is the singer of the Lobos official team song. Apart from soccer, he is in his final year of studying to earn his Master`s Degree in Physical Education. In addition to his various accomplishments, Lázaro is a student of the English Program at the Languages Center. Keep up the good work! // El Centro de Idiomas ha decidido comenzar con los "Student Spotlights" - para presentar diferentes estudiantes del Centro de Idiomas. Nuestro primero Student Spotlight es Lázaro Yanez, capitán del equipo de fútbol de los Lobos UPNFM. El ha jugado con los Lobos desde la formación del equipo hace ocho años. Además, Lázaro es el cantante de la canción oficial del equipo. El esta en su ultimo año de estuidos para obtener su Maestria en la Educación Física. Además de sus diversos logros, Lázaro es estudiante del Programa de Inglés en el Centro de Idiomas. ¡Gracias por su trabajo!

The Languages Center recently concluded our celebration of Black History Month. This year, we commemorated Black History Month with a cinematic celebration. During the last week of February, a different movie was shown every day highlighting African American culture and history. The films shown include "Fences", "The Help", "Barry", and "Precious". Black History Month is predominantly observed in America, and because of this, our film week was mainly enjoyed by our English program students. On the last day of our film week, students from all of the Languages Center programs were invited to our screening of the movie Precious. Also on this day, we had a brief presentation from visiting Fulbright Scholar, Haley Carter, about Black History Month in the United States. Our cultural celebrations are an integral part of the diplomas offered by the Languages Center. We look forward to our next celebration!

The Languages Center began their classes for the 1st Period of 2019 on Monday, February 4, 2019. Languages being offered this period include English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Korean, Mandarin Chinese, Japanese and Spanish as a foreign language. The Languages Center has over 200 students this semester. Both students and teachers were eager to commence classes this period. We know it will be another great year of learning!

The Languages Center celebrated Christmas on Tuesday, November 27 with a celebration! Every class sang a Christmas song in the language that they are learning, and we were able to hear music sung in Korean, Japanese, English, German, Italian, Mandarin Chinese, Portuguese, and French.

The Global UGRAD Undergraduate Exchange Program is open for applications! This program provides opportunities to study for a semester in a foreign country.
